Getting a better result

  • Face the camera straight on. A three-quarter angle hides the hairline, which is exactly where a hairstyle either works or does not.
  • Tie nothing back and wear no hat. The model has to see where your hair starts.
  • Daylight near a window. Overhead indoor light flattens texture and the result comes back looking like a wig.
  • Name the length in the prompt — "chin-length bob", "shoulder-length layers". "Short" means four different cuts.
  • If you are considering a colour, run the cut and the colour separately first. Two changes at once makes it hard to tell which one you disliked.

What it will not do

  • It shows the style, not the maintenance. A cut that needs styling every morning looks identical here to one that does not.
  • It cannot tell you whether your hair will hold the shape. Texture and density decide that, and no photograph knows yours.
  • Hairlines are approximated. If yours is receding, treat the result as a rough guide rather than a promise.
  • It will not add hair you do not have in a way that survives a real haircut.
