How to Edit AI-Generated Video: From Clips to One Film

AI video models produce clips, not films. Five seconds here, eight there, each generated on its own. Turning that pile into something with a beginning and an end is an editing problem, and it is the step most people are missing.

The gap nobody mentions

Ask any model for a video and you get one shot. Ask for a minute-long story and you get one shot that runs out. Length comes from joining — which means you need somewhere to put the clips, cut them, order them and render them together.

One detail that matters more than it sounds: when you add a creation to a timeline, a copy is taken. Provider links expire within a day, so a cut built on raw links would quietly break by tomorrow — and the export with it.

A workable method

1. Plan the shots. Decide the sequence before generating. Every re-generation costs coins; the timeline does not.
2. Generate deliberately. Keep a consistent style phrase across shots ("warm tones, gentle push-in") so they read as one film.
3. Cut first, judge later. Drop everything on the timeline and trim hard. Most generated clips have a usable middle and a weak end.
4. Join with intent. A hard cut is right most of the time. A crossfade or a dip to black is for a change of place or time — the choice is per join, under the timeline.
5. Add sound. A music bed does more for coherence than any transition. Clips keep their own audio and the music mixes under it.
6. Export, then re-shape. Render 9:16 for Reels, change Size, render 16:9 for YouTube. Same cut, no regeneration.

Generating a sequence, not a shot

The Generate tab plans a story as several shots and makes each one continue from the last frame of the one before it, so a longer piece keeps its continuity instead of restarting every few seconds. The whole thing is priced before anything runs, and what it produces lands in your workspace like everything else — ready to be cut.

Generating costs coins, always shown before you commit. Editing costs nothing: trimming, splitting, reordering, transitions, sound and export are unlimited. That split is deliberate — an editor you can only open by spending money first is not an editor.
